Welcome, Tanna Rasmussen, CBE Completion Coach

We are very pleased to have Tanna Rasmussen begin work as the CBE completion coach.  Tanna joins our pilot program from Eastern Oregon University where she served as a university advisor and the Assessment and Accreditation Manager for business and education programs. Prior to her work at EOU, she was an advisor in the TRiO/Student Support Services program at Blue Mountain Community College.   Tanna earned her Ph.D. in Education at Seattle Pacific University.

Tanna will work directly with pilot colleges in several ways.  She will work with students after they fill out an academic plan with a pilot college adviser.  She will also work with prospective students before they see an adviser and with pilot college advisers if they have any questions.

Her contact information is trasmussen@columbiabasin.edu   Her phone number is  509-520-7342.

In a few weeks, we will schedule a f-2-f meeting with pilot college staff to prepare to enroll students for the July term.  In the meantime, help us welcome Tanna.

CBE Update

The CBE pilot project continues to make progress toward our first students in March.

You can find an update on the CBE Business Degree Pilot in this Update January 2015.

Here’s a quick version:

Eight colleges continue to work on the CBE business degree pilot:  Bellevue, Centralia, Columbia Basin (Lead), Everett, Olympic, both Pierce Colleges, and Tacoma.  CBC plans to begin teaching students in March, and the other pilots plan to begin in July.  NWCCU has required all colleges to file a substantive change for any CBE program, and CBC’s request has been approved. Selection committees are interviewing candidates for 11 positions:  a completion coach, four full-time faculty and 6 adjunct faculty.  Lumen Learning continues to work with system faculty to build open course content and both adaptive and performance-based assessments.

CBE Pilot Completion Coach Job Announcement Posted

If you are anyone you know is interested in being the first completion coach for the CBE Business Degree Pilot, take a look at the job announcement:

http://www.columbiabasin.edu/index.aspx?page=205

The person in this job will provide ongoing support to students in the CBE pilot program from all pilot colleges.  The work is online, so the person does not need to be located in Pasco.   The job closes on December 12 and begins in January.

How faculty from pilot colleges can be involved in the CBE program

The CBE business degree pilot seeks system faculty, especially from pilot colleges, to provide expertise in several ways.

  1. Faculty are currently working to map competencies for the 18 courses in the degree program.  The process is facilitated by Lumen Learning, and participating faculty are paid on a personal services contract through Columbia Basin College (the lead institution in the pilot consortium).  The first stage of this work is almost done; however additional faculty will be needed as we continue to work on the courses.  For more information, please email cbroughton@sbctc.edu
  2. As the competencies are drafted, they will be made openly available on this site.  You can make comments on the draft competencies directly on the shared documents, which will be on http://cbewa.org  under Courses. The economics course competencies are there now, and we will be adding the other courses soon.
  3. As the lead institution, Columbia Basin is hiring four full-time and six adjunct faculty to be the teaching faculty for the pilot.  If you are interested in applying for one of the jobs, see the job announcements here:  http://agency.governmentjobs.com/columbiabasin/default.cfm
  4. Although the teaching faculty for the pilot will be hired by Columbia Basin, faculty and administrators from pilot colleges will be included on each hiring committee.  If you are interested, the interviews will take place mid-November through mid-December, and they will be completely online.  Let your VPI know if you would like to serve on a hiring committee.
  5. The teaching version of the courses will be finalized by the faculty hired to teach.  Those faculty will also devise, administer and grade the final assessments.  Teaching faculty will be reaching out to pilot college faculty for feedback on the courses in early winter.
